One of the really good things about being a wedding photographer in Northamptonshire is that there are so many beautiful wedding venues. Over the last 6 years I have been fortunate to have worked at most of them, but Towcester Racecourse was one wedding venue that was on my wish list. Rhiannon & Richard had chosen this grand venue for their wedding, and I was really looking forward to being part of their day.
The venue dates back to 1876 and is set in some beautiful Northamptonshire parkland, offering wedding parties exclusive use of either race stand. For Rhiannon & Richard’s wedding the Grace Stand would be the setting for their Towcester Racecourse Wedding.
Rhiannon along with her close family and bridesmaid chose to get ready at Whittlebury Hall, which is just a short drive away. The wedding ceremony was booked for 1.00pm so this had allowed me to spend the morning observing Rhiannon as she was getting ready. As my photographic style is documentary, I’m always trying to keep in the background throughout the day, recording moments as they unfold in front of me. I feel this allows people to just be themselves, and I try to capture the essence of the day without taking over the proceedings.
As Rhiannon entered the ceremony room, there were brief tell tale signs of her emotions, and the whole ceremony was lovely. There were many moments of laughter which broke the tension of the occasion, and once it had all been certified as official, guests were able to enjoy drinks outside with views that overlooks the racecourse. Whilst the guests soaked in the early May sunshine, I escorted Richard & Rhiannon for a brief stroll up the long driveway to the main Towcester Racecourse entrance, where we took some photographs of them under the landmark archway.
The wedding breakfast was followed by the speeches, including some rather embarrassing recollections of Richard’s bachelor days by his best man. This is why I love documenting weddings, as I get the opportunity to witness some brilliant moments that are clearly very special to the people involved.
The whole day was fantastic and Richard & Rhiannon were really excited about their honeymoon in Mexico, and it’s a shame that they didn’t want that part of their wedding documenting as well.
Below is a selection of images from the day and I hope you enjoy looking at them:
