Social Media, it’s like Marmite. You either love it or hate it. Either way its here to stay, and if you own a business you must embrace it.
Your profile image can tell a lot about you, and often a photograph is snatched using a mobile phone. The quality is usually questionable, and remember first impressions last a lifetime.
So with that in mind, I was asked by a friend to take a few (Profile) photographs that he can use on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin etc.
The whole session lasted no more than 30 minutes, and he had a dozen or so images to choose from. Some relaxed, some more formal for business use.

It’s strange how things turn out. Some months ago I was commissioned to photograph Louise for a local commercial publication, as she runs a very vibrant and successful business.
From that initial meeting, she asked me to take some family portraits in the studio, as the children were growing up so fast.
I have now also been lucky enough to be chosen to photograph their forthcoming wedding at the end of the year!
Which just goes to show that sometimes being in the right place, at the right time can provide some great opportunities.

At last the weather has broken, and the timing was perfect for a Portrait Photo Shoot that had been requested some time ago.
All you need is some willing subjects, a bit of ‘off camera’ flash’ to combat the strong backlighting. And we have a fun filled session.

Portrait photography does not have to be confined to a studio. It can be at a venue of your choice. The local park, the beach or even a yard vist to where you keep your horse or pony.
And that is exactly what this client wanted. Natural. relaxed portraits of the children enjoying the ponies.
Although we had to work quickly to beat the rain, it just shows that you don’t always need sunshine to get great images.

With a daughter who loves her ponies, it’s a regular occurrence to hear “Dad, do you want to take some photos of me and (whoever is the current pony at the time)”?
As a huge fan of ‘Off Camera Lighting’, I will usually concede and grab one or two speedlight flash units, a couple of light stands and my faithful Pocket Wizard Flex TT5 radio transmitters. This is a fast and reliable setup, and the off camera flash can really help to make the image pop.
Time flies by so fast, and below are a couple of photos taken at just over two years apart. The top one was taken in Salcey Forest, the other in Brafield.
